چکیده
It is shown that the even and odd coherent light and other nonclassical states of light like superposition of coherent states with different phases may replace the squeezed light in interferometric gravitational wave detector to increase its sensitivity. Reduction of optimum light power with Heisenberg-limited photon-counting noise in interferometric gravitational-wave detectors
We study how the behavior of quantum noise, presenting the fundamental limit on the sensitivity of interferometric gravitational-wave detectors, depends on properties of input states of light. We analyze the situation with specially prepared nonclassical input states which reduce the photoncounting noise to the Heisenberg limit. This results in a great reduction of the optimum light power neede...
متن کاملEllipsometric measurements by use of photon pairs generated by spontaneous parametric downconversion.
We present a novel interferometric technique for performing ellipsometric measurements. This technique relies on the use of a nonclassical optical source, namely, polarization-entangled twin photons generated by spontaneous parametric downconversion from a nonlinear crystal, in conjunction with a coincidence-detection scheme. Ellipsometric measurements acquired with this scheme are absolute; i....
متن کاملNonclassical character of statistical mixtures of the single-photon and vacuum optical states
Nonclassical states of the electromagnetic field have for many years provided an excellent playground for testing fundamental concepts of quantum mechanics [1]. Recently, nonclassical light has also become an important asset to the rapidly developing applied fields of quantum optics, such as quantum communication and quantum information technology. Its applications, to name only a few, include ...
متن کاملBeating the Standard Sensitivity-Bandwidth Limit of Cavity-Enhanced Interferometers with Internal Squeezed-Light Generation.
The shot-noise limited peak sensitivity of cavity-enhanced interferometric measurement devices, such as gravitational-wave detectors, can be improved by increasing the cavity finesse, even when comparing fixed intracavity light powers. For a fixed light power inside the detector, this comes at the price of a proportional reduction in the detection bandwidth. High sensitivity over a large span o...

In the last decade, there has been remarkable progress on the practical integration of on-chip quantum photonic devices, yet quantum-state generators remain an outstanding challenge. Simultaneously, the quantum-dot photonic-crystal-resonator platform has demonstrated a versatility for creating nonclassical light with tunable quantum statistics thanks to a newly discovered self-homodyning interf...
